10 Porutham matching explained
In Tamil tradition, marriage compatibility is judged through the Dasa Porutham — ten checks drawn from the bride's and groom's birth stars (Nakshatra) and Moon signs (Rasi). Here is what each one means, in plain language.

What is Porutham?
Porutham (பொருத்தம்) means "agreement" or "fit". Each of the ten Poruthams looks at a different dimension of a couple's life together — health, temperament, children, prosperity, physical harmony, and longevity of the marriage. Traditionally, the more Poruthams that agree, the more auspicious the match is considered. Most families look for a strong overall result rather than a perfect ten, and give special weight to Rajju.

| Rajju | ரஜ்ஜு | Longevity of the marriage bond — considered the most important. The stars should not fall in the same Rajju group. |

Why Rajju matters most
Among the ten, elders give the greatest weight to Rajju Porutham. It is read as the longevity and stability of the marriage itself. When both partners' stars fall in the same Rajju category, tradition treats it as a serious caution, even if other Poruthams agree. A careful matching always checks Rajju first.
Porutham is not only Rasi
A common shortcut is to compare only the two Rasi (Moon signs). That is just one of the ten Poruthams. A complete Tamil horoscope match also weighs the Nakshatra, the planetary lords, and Dosham factors such as Sevvai Dosham. Reducing compatibility to a single Rasi check misses most of the picture.
